Day 1 · A Piece of History at Your Feet
If you have already arrived, run to the hotel to leave your suitcase and check-in, you don't have a minute to lose! We promise that it will be a very special day. To get to the Alhambra you can use public transport, but we recommend you go on foot. The route begins in Carrera del Darro, one of the oldest streets in Granada and from which you can contemplate an incredible view of the Alhambra. In addition, this street has an important historical value and important buildings are erected around it such as the church of Santa Ana, the convent of Santa Catalina, the Castril house or the Arab baths of Bañuelo. This street connects with the Paseo de los Tristes where you can see the old stone bridges and the remains of the wall, an ideal background to capture the best photos.
If you cross the Puente del Aljibillo you will find the Cuesta del Rey Chico, a medieval path that runs through the old Barranco de la Aikibía and connects the Albaicín neighborhood with the Alhambra. Its special charm will leave you spellbound, a path nestled in the epicenter of history and for which it seems that time has not passed. Enjoy a quiet walk contemplating the ancient walls, listening to the sound of the birds and the water running through the streams, ending right at the access pavilion to the Alhambra. Once you are in the Alhambra, enjoy the visit that we have prepared for you, accompanied by an expert guide. Discover the impressive palatine city and let yourself be enveloped by the magic of its imposing palaces, fortresses and spectacular gardens.
At the foot of the Alhambra is the Jewish quarter of Granada, the Realejo. A set of steep and narrow streets, which despite the renovations continues to maintain the spirit of the old Jewish quarter. Take a walk and discover the many secrets it keeps, such as: the Torres Bermejas, the Campo del Príncipe or the Corral del Carbón, a corn exchange from the beginning of the 14th century that was a grain store, warehouse and traveler hostel. And if it is time to eat, take the opportunity to have some tapas in one of the many places that you will find. We recommend the delicious Los Manueles croquettes, a real delight!
And in the afternoon we advise you to visit the Albaicín neighborhood. The heart of the Arab medina, located right in front of the Alhambra, is considered one of the most important Arab neighborhoods of the Middle Ages and a World Heritage Site. It is full of wonderful corners, the result of the extremely important Arab legacy, such as its network of streets that remains as it was from the Nasrid period, as well as palaces and walls. Getting lost in its labyrinth of narrow, jasmine-scented streets is like taking a trip through Granada's Arab roots. In addition, it is the perfect neighborhood to relax and a great opportunity to get to know and soak up the spirit of Granada.
And if it stands out for something, it is for its incredible views of the Alhambra from any point, although, without a doubt, the San Nicolás viewpoint is the most famous. Sit on the small wall and be surprised by the imposing Alhambra at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. An incredible image that will take your breath away and that you will hardly forget.
Day 2 · The Granada that Falls in Love
Today you should start very early, you have many things to see. To begin, we suggest you go to the Cathedral of Granada, the perfect point to start a walk through the heart of the city. From the Plaza de las Pasiegas you can see its spectacular Baroque-style façade, despite the fact that this impressive building claims to be the first Renaissance church in Spain. Its interior contains 15 chapels, one of them, the Royal Chapel, which houses the remains of the Catholic Monarchs. Right in front of the Royal Chapel is the Palacio de la Madraza. A building that housed the first university in Granada, founded by Yusuf I in 1349, at the height of the Nasrid splendor, and which today is the headquarters of the Center for Contemporary Culture of the University of Granada.
Take the opportunity to stroll through the surrounding streets and squares. You will be able to discover some of the most beautiful corners of the city such as the Plaza de la Romanilla where the monument honoring the figure of the water carrier is located, a trade of enormous importance in Andalusia. You will also find numerous historic buildings such as the Faculty of Law, the Basilica of San Juan de Dios or the Royal Monastery of San Jerónimo, and as an essential stop: the Plaza de Bib-Rambla. A space built in the Nasrid period and the social and commercial center of the city. Today it preserves its undeniable beauty and its festive atmosphere, and it is also the ideal place to snack on churros with chocolate. Don't you feel like trying them?
And finally, there is nothing better than a walk along Acera del Darro, a street full of shops and bars that ends at the famous Roman Bridge. Enjoy the sunset on this bridge that joins the city over the Genil river and despite its name, it is not Roman but Arabic.
We cannot summarize Granada in a few lines, but we are sure that you will discover many more amazing corners than what we have told you about. And if you've been left wanting more, we'll be happy to see you again, because you can't just visit Granada, you have to experience it!
