You will learn how it was founded, its evolution over the years and the history of its most illustrious characters. We will start in Pelayo Street, one of the main commercial streets of the city. This street, which runs from the Plaza de la Universidad to the Plaza de Cataluña, serves as a division between the oldest and newest areas of the city. We will continue our walking tour through one of the largest squares in Spain and one of the most important places in Barcelona, the Plaza de Catalunya which has an area of 30,000 square meters. From here, we will walk down one of the most beautiful and famous streets of the city, Las Ramblas, down its 1.2 km length through flower and souvenir stalls to arrive by the sea, to the old port of the city.
We will learn about the history of the ancient city of Barcelona, the guide will tell us how the Emperor Augustus founded it and the name he gave it. We will see the remains of the city walls as we walk through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter and arrive at the Plaza Nova or Cathedral Square. Here, in the center of the Gothic quarter, is the Cathedral. It was built on the foundations of the primitive paleochristian basilica, and the later Romanesque Cathedral and is Gothic in style. We will have the opportunity to meet important figures in the history of the city such as San Roque or Wilfredo el Velloso and learn more about the flag of Catalonia and how its current design came about. We will walk through the Plaza del Rei and Plaza del Pi until we reach the Plaza de Sant Jaume, the current administrative and political center of the city. Here we find the town hall and the Palau de la Generalitat. In Roman times, two of the city's main communication routes crossed here: the Cardo and the Decumanus. Hola España!
